Dialectical Behaviour Therapy is a therapy that is exceptionally helpful for individuals who experience bigger than average emotions. Emotional dysregulation can make functioning on a daily basis quite challenging. These groups are designed for adolescents aged 14-17 and adults who experience dysregulated emotions and don’t have the skills in their tool kits to know how to work with their emotions (as opposed to having them create chaos for them).
The skills of DBT are helpful for learning how to regulate emotions, be more present in your life, cultivate habits that are conducive to wellness and create effective communication patterns. These courses are taught over 10 sessions (with the exception of the Module Series, which will be broken down into 4 session groupings that can be attended a la carte).
There will be home practice assigned each week and participants will be expected to practice the skills learned in between sessions. Participation in the group is also an expectation for all participants; we know that this can be challenging for lots of people initially and we will work with all participants who find speaking in the group setting difficult. Parents will be provided with supplemental guides and their own homework to be able to support their teen through the learning process (adolescent group only).
Erin is trained in DBT through Behavior Tech in the US and has extensive experience in facilitating DBT groups. These groups are an adapted and condensed version of the 24 week DBT protocol.
It is important to note that this group is not part of a DBT program and does not come with additional support outside of the group.
Customized workshops for equestrian athletes to help learn emotion coping and mental preparation strategies to optimize performance both at home and in the show ring.
Emotions showing up when in the saddle can both help and hinder our performance as riders. Learning strategies that can help reduce interfering emotions and increase our abilities to self regulate and have our emotion work for us rather than against us is an important aspect of developing as equestrian athletes. Learn how to utilize the principles of visualization, nervous system regulation and mindfulness as ways to enhance your ability in the saddle.
These workshops can be done in person at our office in Cochrane, on location at your facility, or virtually.
Please enquire for pricing.
